Dow Closes Up 300+ Points; Nasdaq and S&P Also End Day Higher
Published at(NEW YORK) — Investors had a reason to celebrate Tuesday. This trading session turned out to be the best in a month. A hopeful housing report helped, too.
The Dow on Tuesday closed up 337 points, back above the 12,000 mark. The Nasdaq gained 81, topping 2,600. The S&P added 36 points on the day.
Tuesday’s rally was a welcome recovery after the Dow dropped 100 points Monday and closed at the lowest level for the month.
Meanwhile, a spike in apartment construction was behind a jump in housing starts last month — up 32 percent. Construction of single family homes was up just 2.3 percent.
