Drew Brees Breaks All-Time Passing Record in Rout

SQUARESPACE CACHEVERSION=1324969418685National Football League(NEW ORLEANS) — New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees is all alone in the record books now.  He broke Dan Marino’s 27-year-old record for most passing yards in a season Monday night in the Saints’ 45-16 rout of the Atlanta Falcons (9-6).

The Saints (12-3) also clinched the NFC South title in the victory. 

History came in the fourth quarter when Brees threw a 9-yard touchdown strike to Darren Sproles to set the record with 2:51 to go.

“Honestly, I was really trying not to think about the record or anything,” Brees said. “I knew we were close. A couple guys mentioned stuff to me on the sideline. I didn’t want to hear it. It’s like a pitcher with a no-hitter, I guess.”

That was Brees’ last play of the game which gave him 5,087 yards.  He’ll have a chance Sunday to pile on against the Carolina Panthers at home.
