The magazine implies that items from the family’s K-Dash by Kardashian, Kris Jenner Kollection and ShoeDazzle lines have been produced by Chinese sweatshops that utilize people — some as young as 16 — who work up to 84 hours per week, earning just $1 per hour.

Star
also quotes an official with a human rights watchdog that the magazine says is investigating the Kardashians.

Charles Kernaghan, the executive director of the institute for Global Labour and Human Rights, is quoted as saying, “Not only are celebrities like the Kardashians taking advantage of these workers, they are holding hands with a government that spits on democracy and women’s rights.”

Kernaghan has since told TMZ.com that his comments were taken out of context and that his organization’s investigation has turned up no evidence that the factories where the Kardashian items are produced are guilty of human rights violations.

Kardashian matriarch Kris Jenner tells TMZ, “As far as I know the factories that are used to manufacture the Kardashian clothing and shoes have nothing terrible going on at all and the factories are very well policed and meet factory standards.”

The family’s rep denies the allegations to E! News.
