(LOS ANGELES) — As she begins her new job as co-host of ABC’s Wipeout, Vanessa Lachey has revealed that she auditioned to be the host of the recently-concluded first season of the Fox singing competition The X Factor.
She lost out to Welshman Steve Jones, and she tells the New York Post, “You can’t be more polar opposite, so I’m okay with that. Now, if the host was a brunette girl in her early 30s, I would be like, ‘Wait a minute!’”
Winter Wipeout premieres on ABC Jan. 5, and Lachey will interview contestants and provide sideline commentary. She was initially approached to host the show back in 2008, but she instead concentrated on her acting career, going on to land parts on CSI: New York and How I Met Your Mother.
Of her new role, Lachey admits, “When this came round again, it was like, ‘This is meant to be.’”
