Braun is currently appealing a positive test for performance enhancing drugs, which results in a 50-game suspension to start the 2012 season.

According to ESPN’s Outside the Lines, Braun tested positive for an elevated level of testosterone in a urine test. Not exactly the way you want to follow up a career season.

“Sometimes in life we deal with challenges we never expect to endure,” Braun said, while accepting his award at the annual dinner of the New York chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America. I’ve always looked at challenges as opportunities. This will be no different.”

That was the first time Braun has publicly commented on the positive test since his the results became public knowledge. Last season in his fifth year with the Brewers, the 28-year old Braun batted .332, hit 33 home runs, and drove in 111 runs in route to the Brewers winning the NL Central division.
