Bruin Marchand Suspended Five Games for Salo Hit
Published at(BOSTON) — Boston Bruins center Brad Marchand has been suspended five games by the NHL for his hit on Vancouver Canuck Sami Salo on Saturday.
“As the video shows, Marchand skates towards Salo along the boards,” league vice president of player safety and hockey operations Brendan Shanahan said in a video posted on the league’s website. “Rather than deliver a shoulder-to-shoulder check, Marchand drops down dangerously low into Salo’s knee area, propelling Salo up and over, causing an injury.”
Salo ended up suffering a concussion from the hit.
The game was the first between Boston and Vancouver since Boston beat the Canucks in June to win the Stanley Cup.
Marchand was also fined $152,439.02 for the hit.
