According to the document, the Center for Health Transformation — an extension of the Gingrich Group — was to be paid no more than $300,000 for the year for providing “consulting and related services” as requested by Freddie Mac’s Director of Public Policy Craig Thomas.

Gingrich Group Chairman and CEO Nancy Desmond said in a statement that “the contract was solely for consulting purposes and not lobbying.”

It is worth noting, however, that the contract only covers one year the firm dealt with the mortgage giant — the relationship between the two actually dates back to 1999.

In response, Mitt Romney spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom (@EricFehrn) tweeted:  “Newt’s K Street firm finally released the Freddie contract, but only for 2006. Where are missing years? He started there in 99.”

Romney had recently called on Gingrich to release his records with Freddie Mac, accusing him of working as a lobbyist.

“Over the last, what, 15 years, since he left the House, he talks about great bold movements and ideas.  Well, what’s he been doing for 15 years?  He has been working as a lobbyist.  He was working as a lobbyist and selling influence around Washington,” Romney said in Florida Sunday night.  “He was working for Freddie Mac — heard of those guys?  He says that he’s just been a historian, I would like him to release his records, what was his work product?”
