The hit came in the second period when Carcillo extended his arms and hit Gilbert into the end boards near the Edmonton net.  Gilbert did his best preparing for the hit, but Carcillo sent him flying into the boards.

After the hit, Carcillo got a five-minute major penalty and a game misconduct.  Both also left the game with knee injuries.

“I knew who it was and you have to be aware,” Gilbert told reporters on Tuesday in Buffalo. “I should have been more ready for a guy who has made those kinds of hits before.”

Carcillo had two previous suspensions this season.
