Olympics Organizers Target Betting, Call it Biggest Threat
Published at(LONDON) — Olympics organizers for the 2012 Olympic Games in London are setting up a dediated intelligence unit to target betting syndicates.
London’s Olympic minister says trying to bribe athletes into fixing events has overtaken doping as the games’ biggest threat.
The specialist team set up will monitor suspicious betting patterns and share intelligence on those suspected of bribing.
The unit will zero in on syndicates which may try to spot fix events or outcomes within matches. Any spike in betting activities will be recorded and investigated.
