Repeating a line he uses often on the stump, Romney said that he is ready to “collect” on remarks made by Obama at the beginning of his presidency, when Obama said that he’d be a one-term president if he was unable to turn the economy around.

Joined by four of his five sons and his wife, Ann, Romney held a rally in downtown Des Moines, where a crowd of about 100 was dwarfed by a crush of media – foreign, national and local press.

“The president said he fundamentally wants to transform America,” said Romney. “I don’t want to transform America; I want to restore the principles that made America. This is the America we love and I’m going to make sure we take those principles to the white house and get America working again.”

Speaking to reporters after the event, Romney seemed confident about his chances in Iowa.

“Ya know, I think it’s going to be a good day for probably about three people. I hope, I think I’ll be one of them,” he said.

“I think I’ll be one of the three and everybody would like to be at the top of three. But being one of the three would be terrific,” Romney added.

Romney will not hold other campaign events before the caucus, and will spend the day with his family.
