Hollywood Star Could Be Awarded to Whitney Houston Posthumously
Published at(LOS ANGELES) — It’s not too late for a star to possibly shine for Whitney Houston on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
A statement released by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce — the organization responsible for dispensing the coveted stars — explained that the honor was never given to Houston because no one from her camp suggested a date for the ceremony.
According to Ana Martinez, producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the way it works is that after a celebrity is notified of their distinction it’s “up to the family and or representatives to connect with the Hollywood Chamber regarding the issue of a star ceremony.”
The chamber selected Houston in 1995. The singer’s window of opportunity to get a star closed in 2000.
Martinez said after the family grieves, the civic organization “would be open to discussions about setting a date to immortalize the legendary Whitney Houston with a posthumous star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.”
