NBA? SQUARESPACE CACHEVERSION=1329253069265National Basketball Association(NEW ORLEANS) — It has been a rough season for the 5-23 New Orleans Hornets, and it won’t be getting easier anytime soon. Guard Eric Gordon, the key player the New Orleans Hornets acquired before the season in the trade that sent point guard Chris Paul to the Los Angeles Clippers, will miss another six weeks because of knee surgery.

Gordon has played in just two games this season for his new team. If Gordon comes back, he’d be lucky to play in the last 20 games of the season. Gordon was supposed to take away the burden of replacing Paul, who was the team’s franchise player for six seasons.

“After consulting with our medical staff, we concluded surgery was the best route and in the best interest of Eric for the long term,” Hornets general manager Dell Demps said in a team statement. “Eric is eager to return to the court and we are confident Hornet fans will get to see him soon.

In four NBA seasons, Gordon has averaged 18.1 points per game. He has missed at least 20 games in each of the past three seasons.
