But John Lucas would make sure Miami left the United Center scratching its heads when he provided 24 points off the bench in the Bulls (36-9) 106-102 win over the Heat.

Leading by as many as 17 points in the third quarter, the Heat (31-11) did fight back, but Lucas hit two free throws with six seconds left to give the Bulls a four-point lead that sealed the win.

“Always be ready, always step up, whenever the opportunity comes, make the best of it,” said Lucas.  “Derrick (Rose), we didn’t know if he was going to play or not and I was preparing myself all day if he wasn’t.”

Dwyane Wade and LeBron James combined for 71 points total, but were unable to get the job done.

“They didn’t miss anything with the confidence and energy they played with,” Wade said.

Rose has now missed 11 games this season.
