Jim McIsaac/Getty Images(NEW YORK) — Mike D’Antoni resigned as head coach of the New York Knicks Wednesday.  Assistant and former Atlanta Hawks head coach Mike Woodson will take over on an interim basis.

The 60-year-old D’Antoni was in the final year of a four-year contract worth $24 million. Since that time, D’Antoni has struggled to turn the Knicks around, leading them to just one postseason appearance with no playoff victories.

Before coming to the Big Apple in 2008, D’Antoni spent five seasons in Phoenix as head coach of the Suns. During his time in the desert, he compiled a record of 267-172, leading the Suns to the Western Conference Finals twice.
