Man Sentenced for Assault in Christmas Day Stabbing

(IDAHO FALLS) – One of seven men allegedly involved in the stabbing death of Buck Garner on Christmas morning has been sentenced.  21-year-old Joshua Cortez pleaded guilty to being principal to aggravated assault.  Cortez was given a two year suspended sentence and could spend up to four years in prison if he violates his probation.  Prosecutors say Cortez was present when Garner was stabbed to death.  Cortez was also ordered to pay more than $4,600 in fines and restitution, along with 70 days of local jail time.
