Five-time All-Star and Hall of Famer, Chris Mullin, who was drafted by the Warriors as a first-round pick in 1985 had his No. 17 jersey retired on Tuesday.  What was supposed to be a special night for Mullin and the Warriors organization, turned out to be dampered by boo’s that poured through the Oracle Arena from Warriors fans directed at co-owner Joe Lacob.

During halftime, as Lacob prepared to unveil Mullin’s No. 17 hanging in the rafters, he spoke about “embracing history and respect”, but fans were still unhappy about the trade that went down last week when the team traded away it’s star Monta Ellis to the Milwaukee Bucks.

Mullin came to Lacob’s defense.

“As the greatest fans in the NBA … sometimes change is inevitable, and it’s going to work out just fine,” Mullin said. “With your support and patience, and use that passion in the right direction … this thing is going in the right way. I’ve got great confidence in Joe, [coach] Mark Jackson and everything will work out just fine. Just a little bit of patience.”

After the ceremony, Lacob told the San Jose Mercury News he realized fans were upset and felt bad because it ruined the night for Mullin.
