“Nobody expects that he is going to win this appeal but if nothing else he’s hoping to delay his suspension by a few days to give his organization more time to do what it needs to get done,” Schefter told ESPN.

Roger Goodell has said Payton has until Monday to appeal and, if he does, he could stay on as coach, pending an expedited hearing.

The appeal is expected to be an expedited appeal from Commissioner Goodell who is expected to make a decision within days, according to Schefter.

As for Bill Parcells becoming the next head coach, Schefter also said don’t expect that to happen anytime soon.
