Top-Seeded Syracuse Survives Opening-Game Scare

SQUARESPACE CACHEVERSION=1331851879069Gregory Shamus/Getty Images(PITTSBURGH) — (16) UNC-Asheville (24-10) took (1) Syracuse (32-2) to the limit but were unable to seal the deal, as the Orange came from behind to defeat the Bulldogs, 72-65, in the second round of the East Region in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.

UNC-Asheville took a 34-30 lead into halftime, but couldn’t keep Syracuse in check in the second half as the Orange poured in 42 points. Syracuse junior forward James Southerland led the team with 15 points and had a season-high eight rebounds.

Senior guard J.P. Primm led the way for UNC-Asheville with 18 points.
