North Carolina star point guard Kendall Marshall fractured his right wrist during the Tar Heels 87-73 victory over Creighton, in the third round of the NCAA Men’s College Basketball Tournament.

The injury occurred about half way through the second half when he was fouled by Creighton’s Ethan Wragge.

“I kind of got pushed to the ground,” Marshall said. “And I guess when I fell, I hurt my funny bone first, and that’s what I was most worried about. That’s fine. My wrist just got the worst of it.”

Marshall stayed in the game and hit one of two free throws before taking a seat at the next timeout. He eventually went back in the game and played almost eight minutes before leaving the game for good.

Their is currently no timetable for his return.

“You just hate it for the kid,” UNC coach Roy Williams said. “My gosh…We’ve handled a little bit of adversity the last two years and I’m just so proud of my group, but he’s been a big time basketball player for us.”

Marshall averaged 9.7 assists per game during the regular season, good for second in the country.

North Carolina Carolina takes on Ohio Friday.
