Alabama’s Crystal BCS Trophy Shattered
Published at(TUSCALOOSA, Ala.) — The crystal trophy awarded to the University of Alabama’s football team when it won the BCS Championship game in January will have to be replaced, after it accidentally broke over the weekend.
The Waterford crystal trophy — valued at $30,000 — went tumbling from the podium where it was on display, after the father of a current team member accidentally knocked it over. University officials did not identify the player or his father.
The accident occurred after the Crimson Tide’s annual A-Day scrimmage on Saturday at the Mal Moore Athletic facility where the trophy was on show.
University officials say they are taking steps to replace the trophy.
