Baylor Shuts Down Stanford, 59-47
Published at(DENVER) — Stanford found a way to keep Baylor (39-0) star Brittney Griner quiet, but that still wasn’t enough to send them to the national title game on Tuesday night.
The Bears were able to rally around Griner hitting big shots to send them for a matchup with the Irish on Tuesday night, beating Stanford (35-2) 59-47 on Sunday.
Griner finished with 13 points, nine rebounds, and only two blocks.
“They always had two people on me or a second defender coming to try and double me, they stuck with their plan the whole game,” said Griner on the Stanford defense all night. “I had all the confidence in my team, my team stepped up and knocked down shots.”
Coming into Sunday, Stanford had won a school-record 32 consecutive games.
“We worked very hard, we prepared really hard,” said Stanford’s Hall of Fame head coach Tara VanDerveer. “At the end of the day they outplayed us.”
