The team’s move to Brooklyn can’t happen soon enough if you ask New Jersey governor Chris Christie.

The Nets spent 35 years in New Jersey, but the team decided they’d be better off moving across the bridge to Brooklyn. The team will play in the brand-new $1 billion Barclay’s Center.

“(The Prudential Center is) one of the most beautiful arenas in America they have a chance to play in, it’s in one of the country’s most vibrant cities, and they want to leave here and move to Brooklyn?” Christie asked. “Good riddance, see you later. I think there’ll be some other NBA team who may be looking to relocate and they might look at the arena and the fan base in New Jersey and New York are and say, “This is an opportunity to increase our fan base and try something different.”

“Everybody has an opinion,” Net coach Avery Johnson said responding to Christie’s comments. “We’re moving on. And hopefully we’ll move on and be successful in Brooklyn.”

During their time in New Jersey, the Nets went 1,186-1,634 to a .421 winning percentage. They went to the playoffs 16 times and made two consecutive finals appearances (2002-2003).
