Garcia had given up at least five earned runs in his last three starts, including Saturday where he pitched just 1.2 innings and gave up six earned runs. Overall this year, Garcia is 0-2 with a 12.51 ERA and a WHIP of 2.20. Last season, the 35-year old Garcia had his best season in years. He was 12-8 with a 3.62 ERA.

“Like any of you guys, if you don’t do your job, what are you supposed to do, that’s what happens,” Garcia said on Sunday. “I didn’t pitch the way I’m supposed to pitch. That’s the reality.”

Rookie David Phelps will replace Garcia in the starting rotation.
