Bears Linebacker Brian Urlacher Intrigued By Free Agency

NFL via Getty Images(NEW YORK) — Since 2000, Brian Urlacher has been the middle linebacker for the Chicago Bears and one of the prominent faces of the franchise. Set to become a free agent following the 2012 season, Urlacher may want to test the free agent market and explore his opportunities to play elsewhere.
The 12-year NFL veteran recently celebrated his 34th birthday, so he knows that his next contract will likely be his last. He enters the final year of a five-year contract extension he signed with the Bears in 2008.
“It’s kind of exciting. I’ve never been a free agent,” Urlacher said on “The Waddle & Silvy Show” on ESPN 1000. “So if I can get to free agency we’ll see what happens. I no doubt want to finish my career here. There’s no doubt about that. But you bring in free agency and all that you just never know what’s gonna happen.”
Urlacher is currently recovering from a knee injury he suffered in the final game of the 2011 regular season. He is expected to fully recovered by training camp in July.
