(IDAHO FALLS) – A 16-member task force appointed by Gov. Butch Otter is trying to dissuade the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service from listing Sage Grouse as an endangered species. The group is recommending halting new wind, transmission, and gas energy projects in habitat deemed a priority for sage grouse habitat. Organizers are hoping to formulate a plan that would protect the grouse without punishing ranchers. A recent legal settlement gives the Fish and Wildlife another three years to designate the birds’ future status.
