The game was scoreless until the third when Rangers defenseman Dan Girardi got one past Devils goalie Martin Brodeur.

The Rangers then received goals from rookie Chris Kreider and center Artem Anisimov.

Despite the outcome of Game 1, Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvsit believes New York is in for a tough series.

“I think it’s going to be a tight series. Just a big battle out there,” Lundqvist said. “I thought we made a couple big plays when it was a one nothing game. They had a few chances to tie it up, they didn’t, instead we scored the second one and that was the big one. I expect it to be just a big war out there for I don’t know how many games, but I look forward to it.”

Game 2 is at 8:00PM ET Wednesday night, in New York.
