The Los Angeles-born actress succumbed to cervical cancer after a variety of medical problems.  According to a website created to meet her mounting medical bills, she also suffered from kidney failure. The site, started by friend Jeffrey Pittle, had raised half of the needed $25,000 for a kidney transplant and other medical bills at the time of her death.  Pittle confirmed Wilson’s death to ABC News Radio.

Wilson began her career as a comedian, even appearing on Russell Simmons’ Def Comedy Jam. She had also appeared in a number of films including House Party 3, Friday and Poetic Justice alongside Janet Jackson.

Shar Jackson, Wilson’s co-star on Moesha and Kevin Federline’s ex-girlfriend, tweeted, “Oh god….. My heart is soooo unbelievably broken…god has chosen to take my sister Yvette home…”

Wilson’s family has not announced details regarding her funeral arrangements yet.
