After Two Rounds, Tiger Woods Tied For First Place At U.S. Open

Scott Halleran/Getty Images(SAN FRANCISCO) — The U.S. Open is proving there should be no shortage of drama and intriguing storylines. After two rounds of play, Tiger Woods, Jim Furyk, and David Toms are all tied for the lead at -1.
Woods and Toms each shot even par in the second round, while Furyk shot -1 overall in the second round to secure a tie atop the leaderboard.
“That was hard. That was rough,” Woods said after completing his second round. “That golf course is some kind of fast, it is so difficult. On top of that, the wind is swirling a little bit in these trees and that’s something we didn’t have to deal with yesterday.
Meanwhile, top-ranked Luke Donald as well as reigning U.S. Open champion Rory McIlroy both missed the cut. Overall, McIIlroy was +10 through two rounds, while Donald was just +11. It is the first time since 2008 that the defending champion didn’t make the cut the following year.
Among the other storylines in the second round, Michael Thompson who led after the first round, shot a +5 in the second round and fell into a four-way tie for fourth place. Also, 17-year Old Beau Hossler briefly led during he second round, but finished +3 on the day and is in a 10-way tied for ninth place.
