The Hall of Fame manager’s wife, Jo Lasorda, said he was taken to Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York, where doctors inserted a stent to clear a blocked artery.  He is now in stable condition.

“The doctors confirmed I do bleed Dodger Blue,” Lasorda reportedly joked. “I’m looking forward to being back at the stadium to cheer on the Dodgers.”

He is expected to remain in the hospital for a few days, according to his wife.

Lasorda, 84, was in New York to represent the Dodgers at baseball’s amateur draft. Lasorda was videotaped Sunday at a media event at an Italian restaurant in Brooklyn, according to TMZ.

MLB.com reporter Joey Nowak tweeted, “I was at an event with Tommy Lasorda yesterday in NYC, and people said he wasn’t feeling well. Suffered heart attack.”

Hundreds of fans sent their prayers and support for Lasorda via Twitter.

In 2007, Lasorda spoke on ABC News’ Good Morning America about his time in baseball and the modern state of the game:
