Mariano Rivera Aiming for 2013 Return
Published at(NEW YORK) — Mariano Rivera will undergo surgery on his injured right knee on June 12. Baseball’s all-time saves leader is looking forward to pitching again in 2013.
“Oh yeah, there’s no doubt about that, God willing,” Rivera said Wednesday.
When asked about possibly returning this season if the Yankees are able to make the playoffs, Rivera added, “I can’t. I don’t wanna think about it. … I just have to be able to do what I was doing before. That’s what I want. I always believe in miracles. You have to get it fixed first.”
New York Mets team physician David Altchek will perform the surgery on the anterior cruciate ligament and damaged meniscus in the right knee, which was injured on May 3 when Rivera was shagging fly balls in Kansas City before the game.
