Uggie, one of the main characters of the award-winning film The Artist, rolled up in style aboard a Los Angeles city fire truck to get his paw prints dipped in cement.

Dozens of fans came to see the Jack Russell terrier become the first dog to have its paw prints immortalized in front of Grauman’s Chinese Theater.

Asked by ABC News Radio whether Uggie actually understood something special was happening, the dog’s trainer, Omar Von Muller, said, “I think so. Every time that we go out, like to a red carpet or anything like that, he knows something is happening. He knows he’s going to get a lot of attention. He loves to kiss people and take pictures and all that kind of stuff.”

The ceremony was also a retirement party for the 10-year-old pooch.
