The Americans took the lead when midfielder Clint Dempsey scored in the 40th minute, but Guatemala outshot the Americans 13-11, which eventually led to the late score.

Despite the draw, the U.S. (1-0-1) is still in a tie for first with Jamaica (1-0-1) in their four team group. The other two teams, Guatemala (0-1-1) and Antigua (0-1-1), trail group leaders by three points.
