Yankees’ C.C. Sabathia Joins Andy Pettitte On the DL
Published at(NEW YORK) — The injury bug is in full effect with the New York Yankees’ pitching staff. Already without Michael Pineda all season and Andy Pettitte on the disabled list for the foreseeable future with a fractured ankle, C.C Sabathia will also go on the disabled list because of strained muscle in his left leg.
The injury is not considered serious, as Sabathia even said he didn’t want to go on the disabled list. The hope is that he misses just two turns in the rotation. He originally felt pain in his leg during his start Sunday night against the New York Mets. He disclosed the injury until it lingered during a bullpen session on Tuesday.
“You have to protect players from themselves,” Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said.
“There is no doubt we are going to miss him,” Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. “We have a pretty experienced club. We lost the greatest closer of all time. We were able to respond. We lost our setup guy, and we were able to respond.”
In 15 starts this season, Sabathia was 9-3 with a 3.45 ERA.
