Yankees’ Sweep Subway Series
Published at(NEW YORK) — Russell Martin hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth giving the New York Yankees (34-25) a 5-4 victory over the New York Mets (32-29), as the Yankees completed a three-game sweep.
Martin’s teammates were waiting for him at home plate to celebrate. When he finally reached home, Martin jumped and proceeded to fall.
“I tried to jump and I only got about two inches off the ground,” Martin said. “But I still touched home plate, and it still felt good.”
Martin finished the day with two home runs and three RBIs.
The Yankees trailed 3-0 in the seventh when Martin hit his first home run, a two-run blast.
The Yankees are now 52-35 against the Mets since interleague play began in 1997.
