The police officer, who worked as a motorcycle escort and has not yet been publicly identified, allegedly made the comments during a conversation with Special Operations Division officers about threats against the Obamas.

According to police officials who spoke to the Post on the condition of anonymity, the officer in question said he would shoot Michelle Obama and displayed on his phone a picture of the gun he said he would use.

An officer who heard the alleged threat immediately reported the incident to his superiors, the Post says.

The Internal Affairs Division of the D.C. Police Department is investigating and has notified the U.S. Secret Service of the incident.

“We received an allegation that inappropriate comments were made,” Gwendolyn Crump, spokesperson for the D.C. Police, confirmed to ABC News Radio on Thursday. “We are currently investigating the nature of those comments.

Secret Service spokesman Ed Donovan told ABC, “we’re aware of the situation and taking the appropriate steps.”
