JetBlue Pilot Accused of In-Flight Meltdown Found Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity

Randall County Sheriff’s Office(AMARILLO, Texas) — A judge in Texas has found the JetBlue pilot who had a midflight meltdown in March not guilty of interfering with a flight crew – saying Tuesday that captain Clayton Osbon suffered from a severe mental disease and didn’t understand that his meltdown was wrong.
JetBlue flight 191 from New York was about half-way to Las Vegas on March 27 when, according to passengers, Osbon started screaming about al Qaeda and had to be restrained.
The first officer radioed for help and turned toward Amarillo.
“JetBlue 191, emergency,” the voice from the cockpit radioed to air traffic controllers. “We’re going to need authorities and medical to meet us at the airplane.
Osbon will now be sent to a federal mental health hospital to be examined until a hearing next month when the court could decide to let him go free.
