A new TV ad airing in nine battleground states this week promotes Obama’s plan to hike taxes on wealthier Americans and corporations while keeping rates lower for middle-income earners.

It casts GOP rival Mitt Romney’s plan as the polar opposite, favoring tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires while raising rates on working families.

“Two plans.  Your choice,” the narrator in the video says.

The message is part of a coordinated offensive on taxes that Obama launched on Monday, urging Congress to extend rates for only the middle class before they expire at the end of the year.  He is also taking the case on the road with campaign stops in Iowa and Virginia this week.

The 30-second spot — the second in a series of ads contrasting Obama and Romney set to run in July — began airing on Wednesday in Colorado, Florida, Iowa, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia, the Obama campaign said.

Romney campaign spokeswoman Amanda Henneberg said the Obama ad illustrates how the president’s economic policies are misguided.

“President Obama’s tax increase will hit families, job creators, and small businesses all over the country,” she said in a statement.  “Gov. Romney understands that the last thing we need to do in this weak economy is raise taxes on anyone.  He has a plan to permanently lower marginal rates, help middle-class Americans save and invest, and jumpstart economic growth and job creation.”
