ABC/RANDY HOLMES(NEW YORK) — The late-night wars just got a bit more interesting.

ABC announced Tuesday that it is moving Jimmy Kimmel Live to the 11:35 p.m. timeslot early next year, a move that will put Jimmy Kimmel right up against NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and CBS’s The Late Show with David Letterman.

“Given the passionate fan base Jimmy Kimmel Live has built over the past decade and the show’s ratings and creative momentum this season, the time is right to make this move,” Anne Sweeney, president of the Disney/ABC Television Group, said.

The reshuffling also means that ABC News’ Nightline will get a new start time of 12:35 a.m.

Jimmy Kimmel Live debuts at its new timeslot on Jan. 8 while Nightline will make its move on Jan. 9.
