“September 9th I’ll be ready to play for sure. That’s really all that matters to me,” Urlacher said. “I’d love to be out there, but I’m not going to put myself in jeopardy of missing the first game.”

Urlacher says he is slowly but surely getting healthy but won’t risk any further injury until he’s comfortable enough to return to the field.

Despite the fact that he’s entering his 13th NFL season (all with Chicago), the 34-year old Urlacher is still the heart and soul of the Bears’ stout defense. Over the span of his career, Urlacher has amassed 1,285 tackles as well as 21 interceptions. Last season he recorded 102 tackles.
