Flyers Reward Forward Wayne Simmonds With Six-Year Extension

Al Bello/Getty Images(NEW YORK) — Forward Wayne Simmonds has played just one season in Philadelphia so far, but he’s made quite an impression. The team announced they have rewarded Simmonds with a six-year contract extension.

According to, Simmonds deal is worth $23.04 million with a cap hit of $3.84 million.

The 23-year-old was acquired by the Flyers last summer by the Los Angeles Kings as part of the Mike Richards deal. A second round pick by the Kings back in 2007, Simmonds spent three seasons in Los Angeles before coming to Philadelphia.

Simmonds has quickly established himself as a fan favorite among the Philadelphia fans for his goal scoring and fighting ability. With the Flyers, Simmonds set career highs in goals as well as points.

Overall, he scored 28 goals and dished out 21 assists for the Flyers. He also scored one goal and had five assists in 11 games during the postseason for Philadelphia.
