NHL Issues Proposal to Players

Bruce Kluckhohn/NHLI via Getty Images(NEW YORK) — The National Hockey League submitted a second proposal to the NHL Players’ Association on Tuesday, after the two sides met for labor talks in Manhattan.
This particular proposal came six weeks after the NHL submitted the original proposal to the NHLPA. The new six-year deal would include a re-defining of hockey-related revenue.
NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said the latest one was a counterproposal to the one the NHLPA unveiled earlier in August.
The deal would also include a “fixed” salary cap of $58 million in the first year of the agreement, followed by $60 million in year two and $62 million in year three.
Bettman stated earlier this month the league intends to lock out the players if no new collective bargaining agreement is reached by Sept. 15.
The two sides plan to reconvene on Wednesday afternoon. Talks are expected to continue throughout the rest of the week.
