But he’s been anything but that during his time with the team. Oswalt’s struggles have been so immense, that the Rangers are demoting him to the bullpen.

In his latest start, Oswalt gave up eight earned runs against the Angels on Monday and raised his era to 6.49. Along with a high ERA, in six starts with the Rangers, Oswalt has allowed seven home runs and opponents are hitting .358 against him.

A former All-Star, Oswalt had spent the previous season and a half with the Philadelphia Phillies. Instead of starting out the season on time, Oswalt decided to sign with the Rangers in the middle of the season.

Up until this season, Oswalt had only had an ERA over 4.00 just once over the course of a full season. In his 12 seasons in Major League Baseball, Oswalt has made 345 appearances, only 13 have come from the bullpen. He hasn’t made consecutive appearances out of the bullpen since 2001 when he was a rookie.
