Tax Exemptions Could Lead to “Collapse” in Power County

(AMERICAN FALLS) – Power County officials say it’s the wrong time to talk about cutting taxes. A push for legislation by the Idaho Association of Commerce and Industry aims for an all-out exemption from personal property taxes statewide. And while many people like the idea of less taxes, the cuts could be devastating for education and health services in rural areas. In Power County alone, 49 percent of its revenue comes from property taxes. The plan’s supporters say the breaks will help small businesses expand.
