Trail Blazers Hire Terry Stotts as Head Coach

Brian A. Westerholt/Getty Images(PORTLAND, Ore.) — The Portland Trail Blazers hired former Dallas Mavericks assistant Terry Stotts as their head coach Tuesday.
Stotts has previously been a head coach for the Atlanta Hawks and Milwaukee Bucks, where he posted a 115-168 record. He spent the last four seasons in Dallas.
“Terry is one of the elite offensive minds in the NBA, has extensive experience with multiple organizations and was instrumental in the Dallas Mavericks winning the 2011 NBA championship,” said Portland general manager Neil Olshey in a statement. “He understands the vision for the future of the franchise, appreciates the process involved and will create an environment on the court that will produce championship habits.”
Stotts takes over for Kaleb Canales, who went 8-15 as the interim coach after Nate McMillan was fired last season.
