Efforts to Free Bowe Bergdahl “Complicated”
Published at(WASHINGTON D.C.) — A decision by the Obama administration to declare the Pakistan-based Haqqani network a “terrorist group” will likely complicate efforts to free Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl. The Hailey native has been held by the group since 2009 as the only U.S. prisoner of war from the Afghan conflict. Haqqani leaders are threatening to further mistreat Bergdahl in retaliation. Federal intelligence officials maintain that they’re doing everything in their power to free Bergdahl, including a possible prisoner exchange.
