(POCATELLO) – The Pocatello and Chubbuck Fire Departments have lifted the ban on open fires. Residents with fire pits will again be able to use them, though the ban remains in place for areas of the cities considered “urban wildland interface.” The restrictions, which were put in place following the Charlotte Fire, raised protests from several citizens and business owners throughout the summer. Interim Pocatello Fire Chief Dave Gates cautions that fire danger is still extreme, and that the restrictions put in place over the summer significantly reduced the fire threat to the community.
