Romo Throws, Ogletree Catches, Cowboys Win
Published at(EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J.) — Miles Austin, Dez Bryant, Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz all played in Wednesday night’s NFL season opener, but it was someone less known that led the Dallas Cowboys to a 24-17 victory over the New York Giants.
Fourth-year receiver Kevin Ogletree caught eight passes for 114 yards and two touchdowns helping the Cowboys spoil the defending Super Bowl champs home opener.
While Ogletree’s performance may be a surprise to many, it wasn’t to Dallas quarterback Tony Romo. Romo, who threw for 307 yards, three touchdowns and one interception, said Ogletree is a hard worker.
“Kev’s had a great camp,” Romo said. “I know sometimes journalists and writers and stuff, we…you can go off of the games. And you can see the stuff that is happening when someone does certain things. But for me, I’m going off the guy in practice everyday. The guy who is consistently getting a good release against press coverage. The guy that’s consistently aware of where he needs to be at the right time. And the reason Kevin got that job is because he was doing that day in and day out.”
The Giants become the first Super Bowl champion to lose its season opener since 1999.
