Sanctions Against Iran Working, Israeli Report Says

iStockphoto/Thinkstock(WASHINGTON) — The White House has long insisted that tough economic and political sanctions to punish Iran for its rogue nuclear program are having the desired effect of convincing Tehran that developing atomic weapons is futile.
Now, the Obama administration is getting backed up in its assertion by Israel’s Foreign Ministry.
According to a report released Thursday, the Iranian people are growing weary of the international sanctions slapped on their government’s oil industry and central bank because they’re seeing prices soaring on everyday products and utilities.
This report comes as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who advocates a preemptive military strike to cripple Iran’s nuclear facilities, told the United Nations Thursday that a “red line” must be drawn so that Tehran knows if it goes too far, their country would face the most extreme option.
As it happens, those inside Netanyahu’s conservative Likud Party say these threats of reprisal, along with sanctions, are intimidating Iran despite what its leaders say publicly.
