Kroger — which owns grocery stores under a long list of names like Ralphs, Food 4 Less, King Soopers, and Tom Thumb — says it will no longer sell sprouts for fear of making customers sick.

Sprouts have been the target of numerous recent recalls for salmonella and listeria.

The company says because pathogens can reside in the sprout seeds where they can’t be cleaned out, its stores will stop selling all sprouts out of an abundance of caution.
