More HIV-Positive Patients Undergoing Organ Transplant Surgeries
Published at(NEW YORK) — More hospitals are willing to transplant organs to people with HIV because drug regimens are helping these patients live longer, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Kidney and liver transplants are the most common given to HIV patients, but several centers also transplant hearts.
According to the United Network for Organ Sharing, the number of centers that reported doing a transplant on an HIV-positive patient is at least 48 in 2011, up from 25 centers in 2005.
